What are great ways to promote an iOS app | There are more than 700,000 applications in the Apple app store and more than 200,000 specifically for iPad.

The competition is fierce and there is a lot of duplication regarding the value propositions for each application.

In a messy and often saturated market, it is increasingly difficult to stand out from the crowd. Fortunately, this challenge faces everyone and not just the bedroom developers who seek to realize their dream of wealth from an application. It is a challenge for everyone in space.

Those who have the best marketing understand the importance of developing a comprehensive, consistent and complete marketing strategy, similar to what they would have for a real business.

The best strategies have a combination of content marketing and paid advertising and pre-launch of the application.

The following is what the Battle Plan for application marketing would consider:

Pre-launch battle plan:

1. Develop a strong value proposition statement:

Your value proposition statement is what you need to understand and identify first and foremost. You should be able to create a clear set of messages that illustrate exactly what it offers and what unmet need you are fulfilling.

Depending on the type of application, this can be very difficult to solve. Below are some sample value proposals that can be attributed to some of my favorite applications:

Penzu:

keep your memories and your diary safe with Penzu.

Shazam (music identification):

Discover the name and artist of any song that is played nearby.

Once you have established your value proposition for people, you will want to reject it and see what they think of your product. Many times, entrepreneurs get caught up in their applications and can offer this, that and the other without focusing on the core problem.

Therefore, one of the best advice I received in recent years was specifically related to the importance of being able to clearly describe your product.

Therefore, I recommend explaining it to your mom, dad, cousin and even a stranger and asking them to describe how the application works. You may be surprised at how complicated your application sounds on the first release.

1A. Run Google Adwords:

For a couple of dollars a day, you can run some different ads, all with a different call to action and see which one receives the most clicks.

When you review the different calls to action and identify which one was the most successful, compare it with your value proposition and recognize that there could be an idea that leads to a reason to change or review its content.

2. Encourage word of mouth with a landing page:

Now that you know what your product offers, it's time to tell the world. You must develop a landing page that clearly communicates the problem that your application will solve and why people should download it.

The first thing to do is make sure you have a landing page that clearly communicates what your product offers.    DrawSomething has an excellent description video that shows exactly what the application does:

While it is very important to communicate what your product does, the capture of potential customers (emails) triumphs even at this stage.

Boosting this buzz and initial interest is an excellent way to not only validate your idea, but also ensure that you have a list of potential customers from the beginning.

LaunchRock is an easy-to-use option that relies on a viral loop that can generate results easily. The process for this is simple and should be considered by all applications at this stage:

Collect information:

the user sends their information (email)

Incentive -

You provide an incentive to share - Ex. If 20 of your friends register with this code, we will send you an XYZ brand t-shirt.

Socialize:

provide the user with a promotional code, the possibility of sharing via FB, Linkedin, Twitter and email.

Start a blog, write guest posts for other blogs, comment on relevant blog posts, write articles, write an e-book, talk at conferences and events, open a Twitter account and start sharing information that illustrates your point of view.

There are endless ways to get your message across. Do your homework and find out where your market is. In which forums do you participate? What blogs and newsletters do you read?

Put your message in front of them in the places where they already are.

3. Connect with relevant influencers:

Have influencers write about your application and link to your landing page. Do a search of those in your industry.

Here is an email template for you:

Hi Jeff, I'm Ross here from ABC Application and I just wanted to leave you a line and tell you how much I enjoyed following your site. The design is excellent, always relevant information, and I have downloaded your e-books for my own reading.

In fact, I shared that of marketing your iPhone application with some of my friends and they were completely impressed. Either way, I am an entrepreneur and I have followed more blogs in recent years than I would like to admit and I have to say that you are constantly sharing a great job, so keep it up.

In September, you wrote a great piece in an application that [XXXXX]. I thought that the way you covered its founders and gave them honest and critical criticism was incredible and probably beneficial to the founders and your viewers.

As I said earlier, I am the co-founder of a new application, XYZ, which gives users the opportunity to [XXXX]. We generated a lot of traction through our landing page with just over 500 records and wanted to see if I would be interested in an advanced product demonstration.

In addition, I would like to send you a gift card from the App Store so that, when we launch it, you can download our application and consider it at home.

Hell, if you don't like the app after doing a demo, we'll still send you the gift card and you can use it to download the latest track from The Killers (check your Spotify or Grooveshark).

Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for reading this email ... I know you are extremely busy.

Ross

The process to create an email for an influencer is quite simple:

1. Don't be a Jane Doe:

the influencer you are throwing is probably contacted by someone like you every day. Before sending an email, develop a connection by retweeting your stuff or generating an off-topic conversation.

2. Research:

make sure your blog refers to your work or something that made you think this might be of interest to you.

3. Tell them why it is important:

let them know what your application is really important. Why people (specifically their audience) should worry.

4. Stroke the Ego:

not all influencers have an ego, but some do. In that case, congratulate them here and congratulate them there, but do not overdo it with kisses on the butt: that tires and limps.

3A. The media receive a press release:

If you are contacting a journalist or someone in the media, you should also consider sharing a press release. However, when writing this, do not think of the document as an informational document: write a story.

Make it captivating and make sure it's convincing. There are some different twists that you can put in the story. Here are some ideas:

- Local & David / Goliath Spin:

Best Friends launches an application to destroy Instagram

- There is a problem and you are Batman:

the XYZ application solves the XYZ problem

4. Cross your T and tap your I

Many Startups think that the fact that they were accepted in the Apple Store is their one-way ticket to success and wealth. Urmp-Wrong There is much more than that.

First, you should do everything possible to make sure that when someone finds your application in the app store, they want it. Here are some things to ensure that they are perfected before launch:

4A. The right screenshots:

the screenshots you show in the App Store should be the money shots within your user experience. They need to clearly identify the value of their application and also demonstrate simplicity and ease of use.

For most applications, you will have competition below and above you, no matter what. Therefore, you want to try and excel as much as possible and this is just one of the many ways to do it.

4B. Make sure you have the right name:

the name of your application is often something you put a lot of work and pride into, but it is often too complicated. Make sure your name is (1) easy to pronounce and ideally (2) the URL is available for purchase.

5. Develop a Facebook page

Everyone knows that Facebook is the most popular social network in the world. The reason I mention it is because it is one of the many (most convenient) places where a brand can share content that goes viral in a matter of minutes.

Recent changes on Facebook have increased the ability of users to reach the masses and their brand can do the same. Use Facebook to keep your friends, family and people interested in your product aware of the application.

When someone likes your business page, it is published in the news for friends and the network to read.

If you want to take it even further, you can also add everyone to an open Group (this might annoy some people) and share additional content within the group.

You will receive notifications every time you post an update on the wall of this group: photos and simple text updates alike.

Be sure to use Facebook to share screenshots of the application, share photos of the team working and let everyone know about the launch event that you will celebrate in a few weeks!

Post-launch battle plan:

1. Invest in advertising campaigns:

Awareness will be crucial at this stage, so you should do everything possible to attract the attention of people around the world. To do this, I suggest investing in online display ads, mobile display ads and Facebook ads.

The combination of these three types of ads can give you the opportunity to attract people directly to your application or potential customers for the acquisition of information. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Photos are very important when developing advertising campaigns, but each photo can be perceived in a different way. I recommend taking the time to try several photos with your ads and see which ones arouse more interest or clicks.

Perfect header:

your header has no choice but to be short and sweet. Adopt the AIDA approach with its owners: attract attention, arouse interest, know the decision, drive action.

If you can do this, you will find success and you can make a user go from simply being someone aware to someone who downloads your application and shares it with your friends.

2. Press. Press. Press:

You know how to talk to an influencer and journalists, so now is the time to start working. If you think it was important to arouse media interest when you were still building, your efforts are about to level up.

The relationships you built while building the application should be used once more to announce the release. If you go to one of the largest media such as TechCrunch or Fast Company, you must give them an exclusive.

The same goes for users like Robert Scoble (journalist), try to give the media / influencers of the list A the opportunity to access your application or news before anyone else.

3. Seed Forums - Spark Conversations:

Find all relevant startup applications and forums that you may have in your hands. You should use these forums to obtain information, comments and, most importantly, downloads of your new application.

After starting your application, you should go to a variety of different technology forums and talk about this application.

Whether in Hacker News, MacRumors, Crackberry, Tuaw or in a local forum to emphasize the local entrepreneurial aspect.

Develop these threads and provoke a continuous discussion about your product or the industry in which you are playing.
